Water Softeners and Purification Systems
Water softener technology employs resin beads and a brine solution to attract calcium and magnesium ions, which carry an opposite charge. The water that flows out of the water softener contains significantly fewer hard minerals.
This equipment is relatively simple yet has a substantial impact on your water quality. Once you install a water softener, maintenance is minimal. You only need to monitor your brine solution and add special salt pellets as needed.
Hard water can affect your home in many ways:
- Hard water stains
- Mineral deposits
- Gastrointestinal issues
- Frequent plumbing repair needs
After you get out of the bath, you might feel like your soap and shampoo didn’t rinse away properly despite your best efforts. Hard water can also prevent your products from lathering effectively.
If you see water spots or soap scum on your dishes after running the dishwasher, this same issue is to blame. You can use specific products to wash your dishes that can help prevent or remove these spots. However, it’s ideal to address the quality of your water so these issues don’t arise in the first place.
Water purification can also remove hard minerals from your water source. By pushing water through a semi-permeable membrane, minerals collect on the filter before passing into your pipes and plumbing system. Some people choose filtration for drinking water only. However, installing a whole-house filtration system can enhance the quality of all the water in your home, including the water you use for cooking, cleaning, bathing, and showering.
